The Water Museum is located on the site of the city's first water treatment plant. The museum includes the main historical buildings relevant to the treatment process, accommodating the wells, the filtration and pumping equipment. The old treatment plant in Ciarda Roșie, known as the "water plant from Urseni", has supplied tap water to people from Timișoara homes for almost 80 years. The plant was commissioned on June 1st 1914 and worked until the 1990s, when the operation was taken over by a new treatment plant located right next to it. The modern water and sewage infrastructure of the city was built at the beginning of the 20th century and was planned to cover for the demand of its 46,000 inhabitants at that time and for future development.A visit to the Water Museum is a worthwhile stop on your route, to discover its historical purpose, exploring both engineering and architecture chapters. Its present purpose is also of interest for both the community and the visitors, as water is and remains a source of inspiration for many educational, artistic and cultural activities hosted by the museum.
