“Water Museum – connection to the cultural network of Timisoara”, completed

The project Water Museum – connection to the cultural network of Timisoara, implemented by the Aquatim Foundation, from May to December 2023, for activating the former Water plant from Urseni and including it in the cultural circuit, as part of the national cultural programme “Timisoara – 2023 European Capital of Culture”,  is coming to an end. 

The event organized around this occasion will be held from December 7th to December 10th, as part of the official closing program of the European Capital of Culture.  It consists of the specialized conference Water Museums: the reconversion of industrial heritage into spaces for sustainable communities, on December 7 and 8, and a generous cultural program for the general public, on December 9 and 10, 2023.  

At the closing conference, at the Water Museum, we discuss challenges and results, lessons learnt, bets practices, and also about new beginnings and collaborations. Guests: representatives of technical museums from Romania and abroad, professionals in education and culture, artists and cultural operators, partners and beneficiaries.

The conference will be held at the Water Museum, 26,  Calea Urseni street in Timișoara. The presentations and debates tackle key points of the project, as well as topics related to the importance of water museums and the development of communities around them. On Thursday, December 7th, at 4pm: exhibition opening Alluviums and Thermoclines, exhibition curated by visual artist Sașa-Liviu Stoianovici, open for visiting until the end of 2023.

During the closing weekend, children will enjoy our workshops, conducting scientific experiments, discovering interesting readings, learning how to make bracelets and art objects, building an igloo, recycling different materials etc. For adults we planned yoga classes and specialized workshops on environmental education and journalism. 

On Saturday, December 9th, at 11am, both children and parents can enjoy the interactive play Sticluța (Little bottle), directed by Asociația Teatru pentru Tine. On Saturday and Sunday, at 5:30pm are scheduled two performances of the show On the incredible permeability of Matter, with the artists Alexandra Gîrbea, Uțu Pascu and Sergiu Catană. On Sunday evening, December 10th, at 7pm there will be a jazz concert performed by Joe Jazz Junktion feat. Maria.

Around 20,000 visitors crossed the threshold of the youngest museum in Timisoara. They came to hear the story told by the first water treatment plant of the city and to enjoy the festivals, shows, exhibitions and activities held here, thanks to the project for activating and transforming the water plant heritage into a community-oriented living space. The Water Museum is the result of an investment made by the company Aquatim, also its administrator. The Aquatim Foundation is in charge of the project implementation which benefited from non-refundable financing amounted to 1,275,000 lei.
