Opening
Data : June 09 2023 - June 09 2023
The Water Museum of Timisoara opens to the public. The first water treatment plant of Timisoara comes back to the community, following an extensive intervention and rehabilitation programme, implemented by the water company Aquatim. The Aquatim Foundation, where Aquatim SA is the sole founding member, pursues this endeavor through the project The Water Museum – connection to the cultural network of Timisoara, as part of the National Cultural Programme “Timisoara – 2023 European Capital of Culture”, financed by Grow Timisoara 2023 and implemented by the Center for Projects Timisoara, with allocation from the national budget via the Ministry of Culture.
Through this project, the Water Museum will turn from a rehabilitated heritage site into a living space telling the story of water to its visitors and hosting numerous cultural and educational events, from workshops to exhibitions, concerts and new media art shows. A dedicated website, a visiting pathway with explanatory panels and multilingual audio guide, and with its own festival, called Summer Nights at the Museum, this is what offers this project for the activation of a unique space and its integration into the cultural network. The community-oriented activity of the museum is all about making culture accessible and cultural democratization, the project facilitating thus the creation of a tool box for cultural mediation in order to expand and diversify its audience. Project implementation: from May 1st to December 31st 2023. Total project value: 1,500,000 lei, with a grant of 1,275,000 lei out of the total amount.
The Water Museum will be formally opened on June 9th, with an event designed for the local cultural community, partners and supporters of the project, media.
The first public event will take place on Saturday June 10th, when the museum will host the conference International Art Nouveau Day in Timisoara: the role played by the heritage in the cultural act. Free access, based on online registration. Useful links: Registration form (Romanian), Conference agenda (Romanian).
The Museum is open to the general public starting from June 17th, with the following visiting hours: Tuesdays: 3pm – 6pm and Saturdays: 11am – 2pm (in June). From July, the visiting hours will be extended. The admission is free.
The Water Museum highlights the industrial Secession heritage (1914) of the former Water plant from Urseni, by reestablishing identity connections between people and emblematic places, for the city development. At the confluence between sciences, technology and arts, the Museum is a space for interdisciplinary experimentation and creativity, where water, as a vital element for life, becomes social glue, subject of investigation, and source of inspiration.
